Stand With Us On August 20th!

We are gearing up for a big activity on August 20th. We are calling on members to give just 20 minutes before or after school to reach out to parents and let them know what is going on.

Will you join with us and wear a sticker and school shirt to show teachers will not consider an offer that

  • caps salaries,
  • reduces retirement, and
  • creates an environment where teachers won't know if their salary will go up or down the following year.

Will you host a table or site for the event?

Will you call members and encourage them to participate?

Will you send an email to your school board member?

Will you share information with your friends and family?

FAQs

What are we trying to prove?
Many teachers and most of the public don't understand that the administration's proposal would eliminate incentives for professional development, goal-setting, and most other elements of ProComp. We want to share information to let people know what is at stake.

Isn't this just like other demonstrations we've had?
When we picket the central office, we're not changing the minds of the people who work there. They are paid to support the administration's position. When we reach out to parents, we are working together with our natural allies.

Wednesday's no good. Can we do it Thursday?
The goal of this activity is to show unity. We can do that most effectively by holding events at as many schools on the same day as possible. The bargaining team appreciates any shows of support from friends and members.

We just need to strike (or we need to not strike)
The best way to avoid a strike is to be prepared – and demonstrate to the administration that we are organized and united. If further action becomes necessary, we need to make sure we are ready by reaching out to parents, and strengthening our capacity to communicate internally.
