Welcome New Denver Teachers

On behalf of the 3000 members of the Denver Classroom Teachers Association, we would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to the Denver Public Schools community!

Starting out as a new teacher in DPS can be a daunting task, whether you are a brand new teacher or a veteran coming in from another district or state. Ready or not, a classroom of students will be staring at you come mid-August eager to learn, and like it or not, they will test your mantle from day one. This section of the DCTA website is dedicated to giving you the resources, tips, and advice new teachers in Denver need. Check back often for updates and a FAQ section just for you!

Speaking of being new ... New Teacher Social August 11th!
Come out to the DCTA New Teacher Social at the Red Room from 3:30 to 7:30 on Monday, August 11th. Let's get together and socialize before the hectic school year really gets going. DCTA will provide the food and a beverage -- you provide the conversation and fun with your fellow new Denver teachers! The Red Room is located in the heart of Denver at 320 E. Colfax Ave. between Grant and Logan. We'll see you there!

Getting Started
As the school year begins, we suggest a thorough reading of Henry Wong's The First Days of School as the primary source on starting out the year on the right foot. As the year progresses, DCTA will offer NEA's highly successful I Can Do It classroom management training based on Dr. Wong's book.

NEA's "In the Classroom"
Be sure do an indepth reading of the several resources available in NEA's "In the Classroom" section of their website. There are hundreds of tips, advice, and lesson plans available for free!

While there be sure to sign up for the weekly Works4Me Newsletter with hundreds of tips offering ideas and solutions that you can use in your classroom.
